Level-Up Experiences

The following are recommended ways for you to practice and level-up your critical thinking skills this month within your current job. Feel free to use these suggestions or come up with your own. Once you have finished an experience, be sure to add it to your accomplishment tracker.

Solve a Workplace Problem

Prepare: Make note of problems you have noticed in your workplace or ask those you work with if they have noticed anything. This can include problems such as communication issues, a storage area that could use more purposeful organization, or a technological process you can make more efficient.

Take Action: Once you have a few ideas of things you can improve or fix in your workplace, talk to your supervisor. See what they think and get their permission to start taking action.

Reflect: Once you have completed this, evaluate how your solution improves your workplace.

Practice Researching

Prepare: Think of a project or problem where research can benefit your understanding. Make note of what you want to research.

Take Action: Collect information relating to the project or problem. Gather your information from a variety of sources and make sure your sources are trustworthy.

Reflect: The information gathered from your research can help you come to a conclusion on your problem or project. Based on the information, summarize and interpret the data. Be sure not to let your personal biases affect your conclusions. Then, apply your data.

Practice Self Refection

Prepare: Being able to self reflect is an essential critical thinking skill. Take some time to think about your skills and areas you can improve on. If it helps, make a list of skills you know you have mastered and skills you still need to work on.

Take Action: Once you have determined skills you can improve on, make a plan for how to work on these skills.

Reflect: After you feel like you have worked on improving these skills, check in with yourself to see where your skills are at.
