Level-Up Experiences

The following are recommended ways for you to practice and level-up your professionalism skills this month within your current job. Feel free to use these suggestions or come up with your own. Once you have finished an experience, be sure to add it to your accomplishment tracker.

Time Managment

Prepare: Having good time management is a large part of being professional. This means being on time to work, meeting project deadlines, and being prepared for meetings.  Reflect on your level of time management and how often you do these things.

Take Action: Once you have reflected on your time management skills, make a plan based on what areas you need to improve in. If you have trouble getting tasks done, make a schedule for yourself including what you want to accomplish each hour. This can help you keep yourself on track and use your time wisely.

Reflect: After using your new plan, reflect on how you have improved and areas you might still need to tweak.

Communicate Professionally

Prepare: Proper communication is key for being professional! The best professionals effectively communicate their thoughts and keep others informed, verbally and through writing. Professional communication includes using inclusive and appropriate language. Reflect on how you can improve your communication at work. If you are not sure, ask your supervisor what ways they think you can improve!

Take Action: Write out a plan of how you are going to go about improving your communication. For example, if you want to be more professional in your written communication skills, write out a plan to simplify your emails, use inclusive language, and use proper grammar and spelling.

Reflect: After some practice, reflect on how you have improved these skills.

Show Dedication

Prepare: Being dedicated to your work and going above and beyond is a great way to show professionalism. Reflect on ways you can put more effort into your work.

Take Action: In each task you do, make sure you are putting all of your effort in. If you have a question on how to do something correctly, make sure to ask. Proofread your work and don’t rush through it!

Reflect: After some time, reflect on how your work has improved.
