November Career Competency Focus - Equity & Inclusion
The career competency focus for November is Equity and Inclusion! The National Association of Colleges and Employers explains equity & inclusion as demonstrating the awareness, attitude, knowledge, and skills needed to act fairly and be inclusive of people from all different backgrounds and ways of life. No matter where your professional path takes you, it is certain you will be interacting with all different cultures. This is why it is so important to practice equity and inclusion!

Level-Up Experiences
The following are recommended ways for you to practice and level-up your Equity & Inclusion abilities this month within your current job. Feel free to use these suggestions or come up with your own. Once you have finished an experience, be sure to add it to your accomplishment tracker.
Be Aware of Unconscious Bias

-
Take Action: Work to change your mindset. Focus on noticing stereotypes you might have about other groups of people and work to change these.

Learn About Other Cultures
- Prepare:

-
Reflect: Evaluate how you can be more inclusive of these cultures. Take the knowledge you learned and keep it in mind when interacting with others.
Listen to Those Around You
- Prepare: Take some time and reflect on what active learning looks like. Remember to listen without judgment and without interrupting.
-
Take Action: Inclusion is all about listening to and understanding one another. Encourage friends, coworkers, or classmates to open up about their experiences. Each person experiences things differently based on their culture and beliefs.
-
Reflect: What was the impact of doing this? Did the person feel more comfortable and understood? Did you have an opportunity to share your experiences? How will this allow you to better understand others moving forward?
